Megalobox - Which am I doing right now?

I’ve found myself really busy the past few weeks, a lot in life changing, but I’ve finally found time to watch the first episode of Megalobox AND write about it!

Practically two seconds into the show and I’m already completely invested in the vibe of the show.  The cinematic cuts with a backing track that literally couldn’t be more perfect created an incredibly captivating opening scene.

Beyond the visuals and audio of the opening scene though, is a theme that resonates with me to such a degree that it’s almost as if the show is speaking directly to me.  Does it speak to you as well?

To be quiet, and do as you’re told…  That’s the cowardly choice. To stay down… or fight back… To stay down here… Or fight my way out… Which am I doing right now?

Through the episode we see the beginning of Junk Dog’s struggle. His burning coals to fight for his passion are suppressed, thinking he’ll never find a way out due to his situation and circumstance, of which we learn as details of the world and setting are presented to us. But he’s already asked himself the most important question…

Of course, deep down we all know the answer to that, and there's only one path. I loved how they foreshadowed that fact.

By the end of the episode we see JD make a decision to take responsibility for his passion and despite his world weighing him down he gets up to fight for what he wants.  That theme couldn’t be more pointed for me as I’m also working and taking action towards my own passions and goals.

This being the 50th Anniversary Project for Ashita no Joe makes me wish I had been able to finish watching it when I started it a year or so ago since there are bound to be plenty of references to it, but catching up on that will have to come another time. For now I’ll enjoy Megalobox.

Definitely check this one out cause it's easily a 9/10 first impression for me. If you have a CR or VRV account, you can check it out there!
